Alcohol or drug use can cause problems in the workplace. Employee performance and morale can be affected by alcohol or drug dependency. It has been estimated that alcohol misuse alone costs industry in Northern Ireland £238 million in lost productivity.

Why not just dismiss?

It costs an employer money to recruit and train an employee. Often, a skilled and experienced worker who develops a problem with alcohol or drugs can be successfully helped to the advantage of the employer and the staff member.

NICAS can help by providing:

• Alcohol and drug awareness training
• Assistance with policy development for dealing with alcohol and drug misuse in the workplace
• Treatment programmes for individual employees who are dependent on alcohol or drugs
• Written progress reports in confidence to your Human Resources, Occupational Health or other designated officer
• Contributing to health and lifestyle events in the workplace by using screening tools designed to identify risk of alcohol misuse
