Get Help

Do you feel your drinking or drug use is causing problems in your life? Are you addicted to alcohol or drugs?

Contact NICAS. You don’t need to go to your doctor first. We have helped many people deal with just the sort of difficulties you are experiencing. At NICAS we know how hard it can be to finally face up to having a problem with alcohol or drugs (including prescription drugs). You’ll find our counsellors don’t make judgements.

At NICAS, you’ll receive treatment and counselling on an individual basis. You’ll see the same person throughout your period of attendance. Our staff work hard to ensure we can see people as quickly as possible.

Your treatment programme is tailored to meet your own circumstances. Our aim is to give you the professional support you require – it’s up to you to decide whether you wish to do what is suggested. You are an active participant in your treatment programme.

Are you worried about someone else’s drinking or drug use? Is it affecting your life?

Contact NICAS. We provide support for the family and friends of anyone who is involved in alcohol or drug abuse. We have helped many people deal with just the sort of difficulties you are experiencing.

You may want to talk to a counsellor about how you feel about someone else’s alcohol or drug use, or get further information. We can provide both of these.

Are you an older person affected by alcohol or drug use? Is an older friend or family member dependent on alcohol or drugs?

NICAS has years of expertise in working with older people affected by alcohol or drug use. Many people think that it is too late for an older person to change their drinking or drug use, including misuse of prescription medication. NICAS has found that this often not the case. Our Older People’s Service is tailored to meet the needs of older people and has been developed in consultation with older people. Some of the special features of this service are:

  • Treatment sessions delivered in the older person’s home
  • Counselling staff with specific knowledge of older people’s needs
  • Involvement of the wider family in some cases

Our staff on this project also have knowledge of other services available to older people. We can signpost clients to opportunities to meet other people in their community. We also work with residential homes and sheltered housing schemes.

It’s not too late to think about addressing an alcohol or drug problem (including use of prescription medication). If you are aged 55 or over, or are concerned about an older friend or relative, contact us.

Complementary Therapy

Some of our clients may be able to access a programme of complementary therapy to help with their addiction. Please ask your counsellor about this.
